Learning French with crosswords
A crossword makes you recall a word from its meaning and spell it exactly, which is why language teachers use them to fix vocabulary. Because the clues here are in French, you practise reading definitions as well as recalling words. Start on Easy until you finish without reveals, then move up.

Questions and answers
Are the French crossword clues written in French?
Yes. Every clue is written in French for that word and level, not translated from English. Headings use French too: Horizontalement and Verticalement.
Which level should a French learner start with?
Easy. It uses everyday words with short, simple clues and gives about a third of the letters. Medium suits intermediate learners; Hard uses advanced vocabulary of the kind found in DELF and DALF exam lists and will stretch native speakers.
How are accents handled?
Accents are dropped in the grid, as in printed French crosswords: type é, è or ç and the grid takes E or C.
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes, one per level, the same for everyone that day. 'New puzzle' builds as many extra grids as you like from the 458 words in the French bank.
