Tools
Our comparison tools use typical published values (manufacturer specifications, official building heights, NASA planetary data, typical adult animal sizes). Values are checked before a tool goes live and corrected when readers report errors.
Code guides: what we publish
One guide per code, built on the same structure: meaning, severity, symptoms, ranked causes with a concrete check for each, fix steps, parts and typical costs, safety notes, and common questions.
How a guide is produced
- We start from the standard code title (SAE J2012 for generic OBD-II codes; the manufacturer's manual for appliances and equipment).
- An AI model drafts the guide into a fixed structure. It is instructed to leave out anything it is unsure of and never to invent sources.
- A second, independent AI pass checks the draft for errors, unsafe advice and inconsistencies.
- Sandeep Bandyopadhyay reviews the guide and publishes it. Unreviewed drafts are never published as guides.
The live decoder
Answers in the "Decode your code" box are generated by AI on request and clearly labelled. Frequently asked combinations are turned into reviewed guides.
Costs and prices
Price ranges are typical US figures at the time of writing and vary by region, model and shop. Always get a quote.
Safety
We flag work involving gas, mains electricity, refrigerant, fuel, hot exhaust or lifting a vehicle, and recommend a qualified technician where that is the safer choice.
