Random Number Generator — pick a number between any two values

Set a minimum and a maximum, press Generate. One number or a thousand, with or without repeats. The numbers come from the browser's cryptographic generator, so every value in the range has an equal chance.

How to use the random number generator

  1. Type the minimum and maximum, for example 1 and 100.
  2. Choose how many numbers you need and whether duplicates are allowed.
  3. Press Generate; press Copy to take the result, or the space bar to generate again.

What "random" means here

Most number pickers use the ordinary Math.random() function, which is fine for a game but is not uniform in every browser and can be predicted. This tool reads from crypto.getRandomValues and throws away draws that would bias the top of the range, so a request for 1 to 100 gives each number exactly a 1-in-100 chance.

Common uses

Raffle and giveaway draws (set the range to the number of entries and tick "No duplicates" for several winners), choosing a random row from a spreadsheet, a random seat or locker number, a starting player, a lottery-style set of six from 49, or a simple die and coin when you have none to hand.

Questions and answers

How random are the numbers?

They come from the browser's cryptographic random number generator (the same source used for security keys), with rejection sampling so every number in the range has exactly the same chance. Nothing is seeded by the time or by your previous results.

Can I generate numbers without repeats?

Yes. Tick 'No duplicates' and ask for several numbers; each one in the result is different. That is what you want for a raffle, a lottery draw or picking rows from a list.

Is there a limit?

Up to 1,000 numbers at once, from any whole-number range, including negatives. The result can be copied with one click.

Does it work for dice or a coin?

1 to 6 is a die and 1 to 2 is a coin. For animated versions use the Coin Flip and Dice tools on this site.
